I’ve been meaning to post something for a while about the small protest at the end of my road about the potential closure of (parts of) our local hospital in Enfield.
A few years ago I might have even supported this protest (as I believe David Cameron did before he became prime minister), but that was before the pretty horrendous treatment my partner Louisa received when our son was born there. I don’t really want to get into detail but it opened my eyes to the fact that while many people might want to think about the NHS in the terms of the opening ceremony of the Olympics (which, for the avoidance of doubt, I thought was excellent overall), for many others their experience is poor, negligent, substandard or just plain uncaring.
Having said all of that, I still admire the dedication of these chaps, who turn out every morning, rain or shine to protest. I don’t agree with their aims (hopefully that is obvious from the above), but I do admire their commitment to this particular cause… I somehow doubt they will be hiring people to protest on their behalf.
