WOW. They don’t make zooms this sharp do they? The results are beautiful.
If they are Fujifilm, yes they do. This seems to be a stunning zoom.
To think it is the kit for the XE1 leaves me scratching my head in wonder. This lens is about as far from a “kit” zoom as you can manage. The closest I’ve seen to this in a APS-C lens is the constant aperture zoom for Sony A mount APS-C (the kit for the Sony A77), but that isn’t as sharp.
More thoughts tomorrow once I’ve had a chance to properly road test this lens!
Taken with my X-Pro1 and Fujifilm XF 18-55mm lens
UPDATE 21 November: See my Impressions post on the lens here: https://sgoldswoblog.wordpress.com/2012/11/20/first-impressions-of-the-fujinon-xf-18-55mm-f2-8-4-lens/
Very nice series! Look forward to further commentary on the 18-55.
I’m interested in your thoughts on this. How’s the autofocus? Fast enough to keep up with kids?
Yes it is fast enough to keep up with the kids, but only just about. It’s definitely faster than the primes but not as fast as the fastest M43s or DSLR lenses. However, if you don’t wait for focus lock you’ll get a lot of nice shots with this lens.
